Title: Design and Construction of the Victoria Bridge

Abstract: With community input during the Environmental Assessment process, the City of London selected a through arch bridge design to replace the aging two‐span steel pony‐truss Victoria Bridge. Construction of the new bridge on Ridout Street began in the spring of 2022. The new bridge features two 72.3 m structural steel through arches with a span of 95.6 m. Its attractive design is sympathetic to the original bridge’s aesthetic and its surroundings. The bridge also offers improved climate change resilience by increasing the bridge’s clearance above the river and eliminating the centre pier. The project faced several challenges, including complex environmental site constrains, material supply chain disruptions, site‐specific construction obstacles and the coordination of multiple services and utilities.
